Little Worlds Workshop is a home-based preschool in the wonder filled Glen Park neighborhood. We are purposefully small. Each school day is attended by a maximum of twelve kids and there will be three teachers present each morning. This small size and small child to teacher ratio allows us to provide the unique personalized learning environment that makes this community special.
Our program is for children 2.5 years to 5 years old. The school week is Monday – Friday and our day begins at 8:30am. Our day ends at 5:30pm Monday- Thursday and 4:30pm on Fridays. Most children attend 5 days a week. We have limited availability for families who wish to attend 2 or 3 days a week. Our school year starts on August 30, 2021 and runs year round. We are closed for three weeks in August (a two week summer break and a week of teacher in-service) before the next school year begins the last week of August. For holiday and school closures, we follow the SFUSD schedule. See our school schedule page for more information.
Arrive and settle in. Parents are welcome to take whatever time they need to support their child and themselves. You are welcome to say a quick hello/goodbye, join your child in an activity, enjoy a cup of tea or even join the morning circle. Please do what feels right for you and your child on that day. Breakfast is offered for all until 8:45am.
Morning play and movement time. Children are free to engage with their friends in a learning area, play, work, and move their bodies outside, or engage in some independent investigation. Small group work in the art studio or yoga time also takes place during this time.
Snack and Morning Circle. This is our time to say hello to each other, plan our day, explore interests, introduce new materials, sing, and set the tone for the day.
Project Time 1. Teachers will develop and explore projects following children’s interests. Each day the teachers will present children with 2-3 ongoing investigations. They may include art exploration, literacy play, interest investigation, gardening, or a community excursion.
Project Time 2. Children are given the chance to join a different project or excursion.
Lunch. Children bring their own. Teachers join them for eating and conversation and review what we explored throughout the day. When finished with lunch, we transition to quiet puzzle and story time while preparing for rest and quiet time.
Rest and quiet time. Pre-K aged children who do not wish to rest for the full hour will be engaged in “Book Club” or outdoor play.
