We draw heavily from the Reggio Emilia approach but also draw inspiration and knowledge from a wide range of child development, early education, and creative arts thinkers and doers. In short, Little Worlds Workshop is about being personal. We start with a relationship with you and your child and build a program that is uniquely tailored to the interests and needs of the children and families who fill our space.
Our teachers see themselves as learning facilitators and classroom researchers. We get to know each child and carefully observe his/her play and social interactions. We provide an environment that invites each child to explore and go deeper into their own investigations of themselves and the world around them.
"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."
— Fred Rodgers
To echo Fred Rogers once more, we believe that “play is really the work of childhood.” We believe, when given a safe rich environment, children can develop the skills they need to be competent, independent, ferocious learners, and kind friends. As an interest emerges in the classroom play, our teachers then provide opportunities for further investigation. Teachers start by asking children what they know about a topic and then help them articulate what they want to know and how they think they can find out.
Social and emotional well-being is emphasized through every element and interaction of our program. We see all behavior as communication and see all communication as an opportunity to grow. Children are given the tools they need to learn helpful ways of expressing and regulating emotions and safe and guided opportunities to practice ways of communicating their feelings, wants, thoughts, ideas, and needs with their friends. Learning how to understand our bodies, feelings and thoughts and how these interact with those around us is a journey and a process even we adults are still actively engaged in.
This is a safe supportive workshop where practice is encouraged.
We love everything about creating and making and moving. Little Worlds Workshop integrates arts, movement, and music throughout the program. Yoga, music, dance/movement and all forms of visual art exploration will be a regular part of the weekly program. Our teachers have a deep love of making and moving and will share their interests with the group. We will invite artists from the community to share their crafts and deeply encourage our parent community to share whatever arts loves they have as well.
